Lent Meditation on 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Lent Meditation

“Three times I [Paul] pleaded with the Lord to take [the thorn in my flesh] away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ …That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:8-10).

1st Reading: What is one word or phrase the Holy Spirit impresses on you? Meditate on that.

2nd Reading: Enter into the Scripture passage. What do you feel? What specific situation in your life today relates? Write down a prayer or pray quietly.

3rd Reading: What is God's personal invitation for you from the Scripture? You can write down what God may be saying to you or a prayer of thanks. Or rest quietly in God.

My grace is sufficient for you

Lord, I seem to have thorns and lack power. I don’t see your presence and strength released but only the pain of circumstances that seem so strong. Help me see YOU at work in me. Help me to trust YOU with the “thorns”. Pour out your grace and strength into me so that I will not be struggling in vain. Without YOU working in me then nothing really happens. Work in me today. Amen.

3rd Reading: What is God's personal invitation for you from the Scripture? You can write down what God may be saying to you or a prayer of thanks. Or rest quietly in God.

My power is made perfect in weakness
